Mr. Walter Scheel in conversation with the Director and Chairman of IIT Madras, 1963

Visiting VIPs , Administrators , Campus Buildings

Mr. Scheel visited IIT Madras in 1963. He was the Minister of Economic Cooperation for the Federal Republic of Germany. During his visit to the Institute, he visited the Bose-Einstein Guest House, the Central Workshops and also some of the laboratories and academic complexes. This photograph was possibly taken at the Electrical Science Block (ESB). This assumption has been made based on the fact that the ventilation block pattern matches the one at ESB today (2022). The sofas were possibly placed in the lobby of the ESB.

Seen in the photograph, from left in first row, Prof. B. Sengupto (Director of IIT Madras), Mr. Walter Scheel (Minister of Economic Cooperation, Federal Republic of Germany) and Dr. A. L. Mudaliar (Chairman, Board of Governors). The other persons in the photograph are yet to be identified. Also seen is Dr. G. A. Sonnenhol (Ministerialdirektor, Federal Republic of Germany, to Prof. Sengupto’s left hand side).
