Administrators , Institute Activities , Visiting VIPs

This photograph was taken at the seminar organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at IIT Madras. The agenda of the seminar was to “exchange ideas for a possible improvement of the future programmes of the service” and also to make the former scholarship holders aware of the progress in Science and Technology in Germany.

There is a report of Prof. Sampath’s speech in German News Weekly, 27 January 1968. According to the report, Prof. Sampath mentioned that IIT Madras “was a good example of what could be achieved by taking the dominant features of the educational philosophy and the modus operandi of a scientifically advanced country…” Prof. Sampath also thanked the Federal Republic of Germany, the DAAD and the Germans who helped develop IIT Madras.

Seen in the image, from left, Prof. S. Sampath (Deputy Director),  Dr. H. Hessberger (Director, DAAD, India Branch, New Delhi), Prof. A. Ramachandran (Director), Miss. Marga E. Schmitz (Officer-in-charge, Scholarships Division, DAAD, Bad Godesberg) and Mrs. Lehnartz.
