Alakananda Hostel Inauguration

This photograph was taken during the inauguration of Alakananda Hostel in 1966. The hostel was declared open by Sardarni Sant Sev Ujjal Singh, wife of Sardar Ujjal Singh (Governor of Madras). The Governor is seen conversing with the first Warden of the hostel, Mr. S. S. Mani, who was the Superintendent of the Workshop at IIT Madras.

Also in the picture are Ms. Janaki Seshadri (in white saree) and Ms. Usha Rangan, the first women students enrolled in the 5-year B.Tech. programme of the institute.
