Vanavani School was established on the IIT Madras campus in 1963. It was opened by Dr. A. L. Mudaliar (Chairman, Board of Governors) on 8 July 1963. The Annual Report of IIT Madras, 1963 mentions the inauguration briefly. According to the website of the school, it started as a primary school with just 52 students. As of 2021, the school has grown and developed into a Matriculation Higher Secondary School with over 2000 students, including both boys and girls.
