    One of the earliest photographs available of the IIT Madras campus: This picture appeared on the cover of the first Annual Number, with the caption “Deer Park in which our Institute is fast coming up”. The photograph was credited to Shri Md. Ghouse.

    I visited the Thaiyur campus in February this year. Here are some pictures I took.

    • One of the tracks running through the campus all of which are unmetalled yet.

      Mr. Gemini Ganesan, CPWD engineer, who is managing the construction activities at the campus.

    • A Rosy Milkweed Twiner (Oxystelma esculentum) at the edge of the lake. 

    • A Purple Sunbird was one of the many birds I saw at Thaiyur. 

    • I spotted four species of dragonfly and one damselfly species on an excursion by foot. Here is a Three-lined Dart (Pseudagrion decorum) at a pond 

    • There are peafowl on the campus. 

    • There is a lake at the southern end of the campus. A couple of busy Spotbills paddling around the lake 

    • I found this Long-legged Marsh Glider (Trithemis pallidinervis) near the lake. 

    • An Ashy Swallow-Shrike. I decided this was the signature bird of the campus.

    • A Casuarina tree at Thaiyur.

    The Heritage Centre is located in the ground floor of the Administration Building, IIT Madras. It is open on weekdays from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.
