This photograph was taken during one of the events held at Saarang 2003, most likely during a classical music competition. It shows two students, one playing a mridangam (to the left) and the other playing a flute (to the right).
Through a report in The Fourth Estate, we learn that there were several music competitions held during Saarang. These included Western music, light music and other competitions which were popular amongst college students.
