A group stages a performance at Saarang, 2003

This photograph was taken during IIT Madras’ annual cultural fest Saarang. It was most likely taken at one of the music contests that were organized at the fest. Competitions such as Antakshari, Western Music and Light Music were held for participants from various colleges across the country. A report in The Fourth Estate notes that the music competitions were a huge success, with Chennai based bands dominating the Western Music contests. Antakshari was a big hit according to the article, with the increase in audience involvement.
