A "held ball" situation during a basketball match at IIT Madras, 1994
This image was taken during the 30th Inter-IIT Sports Meet at IIT Madras. A "held ball" situation in basketball occurs when two or more players from opposing teams gain possession of the ball at the same time. During this situation, neither team is able to gain possession. Usually in this situation, the referee blows the whistle and calls for what is known as a "jump ball". This gives both teams a chance to gain possession of the ball.
