Seen seated on the dais from the left: Prof. R. G. Narayanamurthy (Mechanical Engineering department), an individual who is yet to be identified, Prof. A. Ramachandran (Director, IITM), Dr. G. Kerckhoff (Minister for Economic Co-operation, Federal Republic of Germany) and the German Delegation.


The German delegation, Dr. G. Kerckhoff (Minister for Economic Co-operation, Federal Republic of Germany), Dr. H. A. Havemann (Institute for International Technical Co-operation, Technical University, Aachen), Mr. Kretzschmar (B. A. W. Frankfurt) and Mr. F. Diederich (Technical University, Aachen) came to IIT Madras on 11th March 1968 to familiarise themselves on the workings of IIT Madras. On 14th March 1968, Dr. G. Kerckhoff laid the foundation stone for the Machine Elements and Materials Handling (MEMH) laboratory and addressed the gathering at a foundation stone laying ceremony that was held at the Institute. Speeches were also given by another German Delegate and Prof. A. Ramachandran during this event.
