This photograph shows three participants during a musical performance at Mardi Gras, 1983. This event took place in the Central Lecture Theatre (CLT). One of the participants is using a veena and the other, a harmonium. The harmonium player also appears to be singing. Microphones are visible close to the musical instruments as they have been placed there to project the sounds to the audience.
Mardi Gras, now known as Saarang, was a cultural festival occurring annually for 5 days with dance, music, quiz, debate, sketching, photography, drama, and other competitions. Mardi Gras 1983 took place from 26 to 30 January 1983. From the name that this album was given, this album appears to comprise images from day 2 of Mardi Gras ‘83, meaning that this photograph was taken on 27 January 1983.
