This photograph was taken at an official function during which the Federal Republic of Germany officially handed the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to IIT Madras. The computer was brought to the Institute in 1987 and installed late in the year. It was a gift from West Germany under the Indo-German Agreement.

Seen in the photograph, from the left, an unidentified person, Mr. Hans Klein (Minister for Economic Co-operation, Federal Republic of Germany), Dr. Konrad Seitz (Ambassador, Federal Republic of Germany) and Mrs. Eva Seitz.
