Sanyal was the frontman and vocalist for the band Brahma. The band formed in 1993 in Mumbai. It was one of the earliest metal bands in the country. Brahma performed at the Open Air Theatre (OAT) on the final night of Saarang, which was the rock night.
Over the years, several popular bands have performed at IIT Madras including bands such as Opeth, Pain of Salvation and Veil of Maya.
