This photograph was taken during the visit of Mr. Walter Scheel to IIT Madras. Mr. Scheel was the Minister of Economic Cooperation for the Federal Republic of Germany at the time. He visited various parts of the campus during his visit to the Institute. It is likely that Mr. Scheel and the other German visitors were welcomed at the Bose-Einstein Guest House before they visited the rest of the campus.

Seen in the photograph, (in the last row, near the pillars) Prof. R. A. Kraus (former Adviser to the Government of India for IIT Madras, leftmost) and Mr. Gerhard Fischer (Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany, rightmost). Also seen are Mr. R. Natarajan (Registrar, second from left), Prof. B. Sengupto (Director of IIT Madras, fourth from left) and Mr. Walter Scheel (Minister of Economic Cooperation, Federal Republic of Germany, seventh from left). The others in the photograph are yet to be identified.
