Dr. A. L. Mudaliar addresses the audience during the Sixth Institute Day, 1965

This photograph was taken during the official programme of the Sixth Institute Day. Institute Days in the 1960s had official programmes consisting of speeches and addresses by dignitaries, and the awarding of prizes for academic and extracurricular contributions of students and staff of the Institute. The official programme was followed by an entertainment programme consisting of music performances, plays and other cultural events. 

Seen in the photograph from left, Mr. Lionel Paul (Gymkhana General Secretary), Prof. G. Rouve, Mr. R. Natarajan (Registrar), Dr. A. L. Mudaliar (Chairman, Board of Governors), Prof. B. Sengupto (Director), Dr. P. C. Varghese (Gymkhana President), and a gentleman (yet to be identified).

Photographer:
C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
