Mr. Walter Scheel visited IIT Madras in December 1963. Mr. Walter Scheel was the first Minister of Economic Cooperation for the Federal Republic of Germany. He also served as President of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1974 to 1979.

Dr. A. L. Mudaliar was the first Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Madras. He served his term from 1959 to 1969. Interestingly, Dr. Mudaliar was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1963 for his outstanding contributions to education in India.

This photograph was possibly taken at the lobby of the Electrical Science Block (ESB). This assumption has been made based on the fact that the ventilation block pattern matches the one at ESB today (2022).
