Dr. Emil Lehnartz addresses the audience, 1968

Dr. Lehnartz visited IIT Madras in January 1968 to take part in a seminar organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Dr. Lehnartz was nearing the end of his tenure as President of the DAAD in 1968 when this event took place.


The event saw 50 Indian grantees of German scholarships in attendance. According to German News Weekly, Dr. Lehnartz noted that the scholarships had benefited not only advanced countries but also developing countries. At the time, 120 Indians were studying in Germany on scholarships.

Schmitz (Officer-in-charge, Scholarships Division, DAAD, Bad Godesberg), Mrs. Lehnartz, Dr. Karl Pfauter (Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany) and Dr. Emil Lehnartz (President of the DAAD).
