This photograph was taken in January 1968 during the seminar organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at IIT Madras. According to an article, the agenda of the seminar was to “exchange ideas for a possible improvement of the future programmes of the service” and also to make the former scholarship holders aware of the progress in Science and Technology in Germany. This photograph also featured in the 27 January 1968 edition of German News Weekly.
It was attended by Dr. Emil Lehnartz (President of DAAD, extreme right), Mrs. Lehnartz (second from right), Miss. Marga E. Schmitz (Officer-in-charge, Scholarships Division, DAAD, Bad Godesberg, third from right) and Dr. H. Hessberger (Director, DAAD, India Branch, New Delhi, fourth from right).
Prof. A. Ramachandran was the second Director of IIT Madras (1967 to 1973). His tenure began at the end of 1967, when Prof. Sengupto stepped down as Director.
