In this photograph, Dr. M. S. Swaminathan (chief guest) is seen addressing the audience during the 13th Convocation, 1976. Also seen in the photograph, from the left, seated in the front row are Prof. Ramani (Department of Humanities and Social Sciences) and Mr. C. V. Sethunathan (Registrar IIT Madras). 
          
Dr. M. S. Swaminathan (chief guest) served as the seventh Chairman of the Board of Governors (from 1991 to 1997). He is an Indian geneticist and administrator known for his role in India’s Green Revolution. He played a significant role in introducing and developing high-yielding varieties of wheat in India. Mr. C. V Sethunathan (Registrar) who was the second Registrar of the Institute succeeded Mr. R. Natarajan (I. A. S) as Registrar, from 5 April 1965 onwards.

C. Gourishankar (1926-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot, and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
