This image shows the photographs from the Mardi Gras photography competition in 1983 at IIT Madras. Each photograph is accompanied by a number and sometimes, a title. In this image, a person views the exhibited photographs. A note saying “Please do not touch” is also seen, requesting viewers to refrain from touching the exhibits.

Mardi Gras, IIT Madras’s cultural festival, is now known by the name Saarang. Mardi Gras ‘83 took place over a period of 5 days from 26 to 30 January 1983 and competitions that were held included Indian light music, Indian classical Music, music quiz, western music, quiz, fine arts, informal events, photography, drama, and debate.

N. S. Vinodh. After completing an early education in Bangalore, N. S. Vinodh obtained his B. Tech. in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras in 1986. Being the secretary of the Photography Club at IIT Madras during his third year, he was an avid photography enthusiast. He then went on to complete his MBA from IIM, Lucknow, and later spent his career holding senior positions in the field of corporate real estate with leading multinational financial services companies. He continued to pursue his hobby of photography, integrating it with his love of travel and wildlife.
