German guests enjoying tender coconut water, 1963

Visiting VIPs

This photograph was taken during the visit of Mr. Walter Scheel to IIT Madras. Mr. Scheel was the Minister of Economic Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The location of this photograph appears to be the Bose-Einstein Guest House. This assumption has been made on the basis that the pattern of the window grills in the photograph match with the window grills at the Bose-Einstein Guest House today (2022).

It is likely that the distinguished guests were welcomed at the guest house as soon as they arrived on campus. The guest house was a new facility on campus. The construction of the guest house was completed in the 1962-1963 academic year.

The persons in the photograph are yet to be identified. If you know the identities of the individuals, please reach out to us.
