This photograph was taken at the 26th convocation of IIT Madras which was held on 8 August 1989. This photograph shows some of the graduands who received their degrees and awards that day.

According to the Annual Report of 1989-90, 244 B.Tech., 328 M.Tech., 51 M.Sc., 54 M.S., and 81 Ph.D. degrees were awarded during this Convocation which sent the total number of degrees awarded to 13887 that year.
