The Souvenir Volume to commemorate the visit of His Excellency Dr. Heinrich Luebke to IIT Madras on 3 December 1962 to lay the foundation stone, contains a report by the Superintending Engineer Mr. Y. S. Ramaswamy provides information about the laboratories which were being built. The laboratories were built as an aid to the practical aspects of teaching and research. The laboratories were built to help departments conduct experiments and research. Prof. W. Scheer from the Mechanical Engineering Department was one of the people who helped set up the laboratory. He was active and determined in his approach to develop the laboratory during his career at IIT Madras.
Album 0049 does not have a photograph of the Student Activities Centre (SAC) which was completed in 1983, but it does have a photograph of Quark, which was completed around 1980. Thus the date of the album is probably 1981 or 1982.
