In this photograph, the distinguished guests and visitors from Germany along with some of the IIT Madras administrators are seen at the new Computer Centre.
The reason for the visit of the Germans was to officially hand over the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to IIT Madras. It was done in a grand manner, with a function held at the Central Lecture Theatre (CLT). Mr. Hans Klein was the chief guest for the occasion. After the event, the officials were taken to the newly constructed Computer Science Block.

Mahabala (Computer Science and Engineering Department, fourth from right), Mrs. Eva Seitz (in red dress), Dr. Konrad Seitz (Ambassador, Federal Republic of Germany, to Mrs. Seitz’s right hand side), Mr. Hans Klein (Minister for Economic Co-operation, Federal Republic of Germany, in brown shirt and trousers) and Mr. P. Seshasayi (Manager, Computer Centre, extreme left). The other persons are yet to be identified.
