Kendriya Vidyalaya / Central School

Campus Buildings , Campus Facilities

Kendriya Vidyalaya, also known as the Central School is located opposite the Administration Building of IIT Madras near Gajendra Circle. It is easily accessible via bus from the main gate since the bus stop is situated near the football ground of the Central School. The Annual Report of IIT Madras, 1967 reports that the Central School started functioning from 20 July, 1964 with classes VI to IX. It is mentioned in the Report that classes X and XI were added in the subsequent years.

Kendriya Vidyalaya is one of the two schools on campus. The other school is Vanavani School. Album 0049 does not have a photograph of the Student Activities Centre (SAC) which was completed in 1983, but it does have a photograph of Quark, which was completed around 1980. Thus the date of the album is probably 1981 or 1982.
