Major General Virendra Singh and Prof. B. Sengupto at the NCC building, 1965

This photograph was taken at the inauguration of the NCC building on 14 December 1965. The table to the left of the photograph contains CW keys used for Morse code transmission. CW is the abbreviation of continuous wave.

Seen in the picture are, Prof. B. Sengupto (Director, first from right), Mr. Y. S. Ramaswamy (Superintending Engineer, wearing sunglasses), Mr. R. Natarajan (former Registrar, behind Mr. Ramaswamy), Commodore Jimmy D. Mody (Director of NCC, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry wearing a white uniform, next to Mr. Natarajan) and Major General Virendra Singh (Director-General of NCC, next to Prof. Sengupto). The other persons in the photograph are yet to be identified.

C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
