Marianne was the wife of Richard von Weizsäcker (President of the Federal Republic of Germany). Here, she is seen at IIT Madras for a special convocation wherein her husband would receive the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa).
Also seen in the photograph are Dr. M. S. Swaminathan (Chairman, Board of Governors, extreme right) and Prof. N. V. C. Swamy (Director, second from right).
