This photograph was taken on 17 April 2009 during the 50th Institute Day ceremony. During Institute Days, several Prizes and awards are also given to students and alumni. One of those awards is the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA) which is the highest award for alumni presented by IIT Madras. This photograph has captured Mr. D. Chandrasekhar, one of the recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award that year, addressing the audience.
In the front row on the stage (from left to right) are Prof. V. G. Idichandy (Dean of Students, IIT Madras), Distinguished Alumnus Award recipients Dr. Jagadeesh S. Moodera, Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan, Mr. K. V. Rangaswami (chief guest), Prof. M. S. Ananth (Director of IIT Madras, 2001-2011), and Distinguished Alumnus Award recipients Mr. M. G. Parameswaran and Mr. K. Ravi Kumar.
Mr. D. Chandrasekhar graduated from IIT Madras with a B.Tech. in Metallurgy in 1970 and is an entrepreneur who has worked with several companies and industries, and has held many posts including being the founder member of the Madras Dyslexia Association and its current President.
The chief guest for the Institute Day was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and at the time, the Whole-time Director & President (Construction) of L&T Ltd.
