Gerhard Fischer was the Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany. He was the chief guest for the first Inter-Collegiate Sports Meet of IIT Madras. Mr. Fischer wrote a message in the Fifth Annual Number of IIT Madras, describing his role in Madras, “As the representative of the German Government in Madras I consider it to have been my privilege to have witnessed the gradual growth of this institution right from the blue-print stage some 4 years ago and to have played some part in this interesting and most useful development.”
