Mr. Giani Zail Singh was the seventh President of India. He served his term from 1982 to 1987. Mr. Singh was the chief guest at the 20th convocation of IIT Madras. He inaugurated the Student Activities Centre (SAC) before the proceedings of the convocation.
On the board behind the stage, the words ‘Silver Jubilee Year 1983’ can be seen along with ‘20th Convocation’. It was IIT Madras’ 25th year of establishment and it was celebrated throughout the year.
