This photograph was taken in the newly opened Student Activities Centre (SAC) in 1983 during the 20th convocation. In the photograph, Mr. Giani Zail Singh (President of India and chief guest) lights the kuthu vilakku (lamp) to inaugurate the 20th convocation.

Seen in the picture are Dr. H. V. Hande (Minister of Health, in black shirt), Prof. Surjit Singh (Chemistry Department, wearing a red turban), Prof. Johnson Victor (Civil Engineering Department, to Prof. Singh’s left hand side), Dr. Nazir Ahmad (Librarian, second from right) and Prof. P. Sankaran (Electrical Engineering Department, far right). The other individuals in the photograph are yet to be identified.
