Mr. Hans Klein (Minister for Economic Co-operation, Federal Republic of Germany) visited IIT Madras in 1988 in order to officially hand over the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to the Institute. The system had been set up at the new Computer Sciences Block towards the end of 1987. A total of 80 terminals from the Federal Republic of Germany were brought to the Institute. They were initially installed at the Computer Centre, but the plan was to have them at different parts of the campus.

In the photograph, we can see Mr. Hans Klein (in brown shirt) and Mr. P. Seshasayi (Manager, Computer Centre, in white shirt in front of Mr. Klein). The others in the photograph are yet to be identified.
