Mr. M. C. Chagla, Dr. A. L. Mudaliar and Mr. T. N. Venkataraman at IIT Madras, 1965

Mr. M. C. Chagla (chief guest and Union Education Minister, extreme left) was the Union Education Minister from 1963 to 1966. He held several important roles in his career, including chief justice of the Bombay High Court and judge of the International Court of Justice. His son Iqbal Chagla calls him “a man of immense simplicity”, in an interview published on the ‘MyLaw’ channel on YouTube. 

Dr. A. L.  Mudaliar (Chairman, Board of Governors, second from left) was the first Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Madras. He served as Chairman from 1959 to 1969.
 
Mr. T. N. Venkataraman (Chief Security Officer, extreme right) “had ‘always a liking for the adventurous life’, participated in, and led many merry hunts for dacoits, naxalites, and other Bad Guys”, writes Bobo in his article ‘The Security Officer’, which appeared in Campastimes (Winter 1971 – Vol. X, No. 2).

C. Gourishankar (1926-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
