This photograph was taken during the 50th Institute Day Celebrations, and shows Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan receiving a bouquet of flowers as a token of welcome.
IIT Madras presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days. Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan was one of the recipients that year. He graduated from IIT Madras with a B.Tech. in Physics in 1982 and is an honorary Director General of the Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises of India (ABLE), and Former President (R&D) of Biocon.
The 50th Institute Day was celebrated on 17 April 2009. The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd. The ceremony was presided over by the then Director of the Institute, Prof. M. S. Ananth who was Director from 2001-2011.
