The photograph shows Prof. M. S. Ananth addressing the audience at the 50th Institute Day Celebrations. The event was held on 17 April 2009 to celebrate IIT Madras’ Institute Day.
IIT Madras presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days. The people on the stage include administrative members and the recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award that year.
The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and at the time, the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd. The distinguished guests in the photograph are (from the left to the right): Prof. V. G. Idichandy, Dr. Jagadeesh S Moodera, Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan, Mr. K. V. Rangaswami (chief guest), Mr. M. G. Parameswaran, Mr. K. Ravi Kumar and Mr. D. Chandrasekhar.
Prof. M. S. Ananth was the Director of IIT Madras at the time this photograph was taken. He was the Director from 2001 till 2011 and was succeeded by Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi.
