Mrs. Shanthi Sengupto was the President of the Ladies Club which was also started during the same year (1965). The annual report (1964-65) notes “A Ladies Club has started functioning in the campus of the Institute during the year under report.” The club was formally inaugurated by Lady A. L. Mudaliar (wife of Dr. A. L. Mudaliar, Chairman of the Board of Governors).

C. Gourishankar (1926-2002). After working for several years with the Geological Survey of India and being a geologist by qualification, Gourishankar had later started his career as a photographer. Gourishankar was driven to achieve flawlessness and perfection in everything that he did. Thus his photographs had an impeccable quality that characterised them. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
