Mrs. Indira Gandhi signs the autograph book

Seen in the middle of the image is Mrs. Indira Gandhi (Prime Minister of India) signing the autograph book. In the early years of the Institute an autograph book was maintained and the visiting VIPs were requested to sign it. This book can now be found at the Heritage Centre. Also seen on the dais is Prof. K. A. V. Pandalai (Director, IITM) who is standing and Mr. K. K. Sha (Governor of Tamil Nadu) who is seated next to the chief speaker.
The eleventh convocation of IIT Madras took place on the 9th of September, 1974. The chief speaker was Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India. The convocation commenced at 04:00 pm that day and a large audience was present to witness the event.
