This photograph was taken in January 1968, when the President of the German Academic Exchange Service (D. A. A. D.) visited IIT Madras in order to attend a seminar organized by D. A. A. D. Dr. Lehnartz was the President of the organization from 1960 to 1968. This was his final year as President, and sources indicate that he would be retiring soon after this event.
