An officer addresses the audience during the inauguration of the new NCC building, 1965

Inaugurations , Institute Events , Visiting VIPs

Major General Virendra Singh (Director General, NCC) was the chief guest during the inaugural function of the new NCC building on 14 December 1965. It is possible that the officer in the photograph is Mr. Singh because the uniform and badge closely resemble the ones that he wore on that day. He was associated with IIT Madras even prior to 1965. He was the chief guest during NCC Day on 4 December 1963.

The Indian Army website notes that Major General Virendra Singh was “extremely intelligent, motivated and dedicated”. It is also mentioned that he was selfless and was of a cheerful disposition.

The NCC building is located roughly opposite the Ocean Engineering Department. It currently houses the JEE/GATE office. (As of September 2021).
