The inauguration of the NCC building took place on 14 December 1965. It was on the same day that NCC Day was celebrated. The NCC building is located roughly opposite the Ocean Engineering Department. It currently houses the JEE/GATE office. (As of September 2021). Major General Virendra Singh (Director-General, NCC) was associated with IIT Madras even prior to 1965. He was the chief guest on the Institute NCC Day on 4 December 1963.
The NCC Office is currently located in one of the ‘Warden’s Quarters’ behind Himalaya Canteen (As of October 2021). The old NCC building, which was inaugurated in 1965 by Director-General of the NCC, Major General Virendra Singh, is now the JEE/GATE Office. It is located adjacent to the Department of Engineering Design and opposite to the Department of Ocean Engineering.
