The photograph was taken outside the newly constructed Student Activities Centre (SAC) building. Prof. P. V. Indiresan (Director, second from right) is seen in the photograph, conversing with a gentleman (yet to be identified).

The Director is wearing his convocation robes. The Archive of IIT Madras has preserved some of the convocation robes from the recent past, which gives us an idea of the colour, texture and also the tailoring company which provided IIT Madras its robes.
