Dr. Lehnartz visited IIT Madras in January 1968 when the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) organized a seminar to discuss further possibilities of improving the programme. It was attended by 50 Indian grantees of German scholarships. According to the Annual Report of IIT Madras, 1967, “The seminar provided an opportunity to the delegates to review their experiences and make many useful suggestions for the operation of the exchange programme in future years.”
In 1959, Prof. A. Ramachandran’s association with IIT Madras began when he attended a summer course at the Institute. He became the second Director of the Institute towards the end of 1967. His father, Dr. Arcot Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar was the first Chairman, Board of Governors of the Institute (1959-1969). Dr. Lehnartz served as President of the DAAD from 1960 to 1968.
