During the 13th convocation, which took place on 20 August 1976, 574 degrees were awarded in total. Out of these, the departments of Mechanical Engineering (131 degrees) and Electrical Engineering (110 degrees) obtained the highest number of degrees awarded. In 1976, 11.08 percent of students from B. Tech. and 9.58 percent of students from M. Tech. graduated from IIT Madras with ‘distinction’. 76.42 percent of students from B. Tech. and 79.05 percent of students from M. Tech. graduated during the year with ‘first class’.
