This photograph has captured Prof. V. G. Idichandy speaking at the 50th Institute Day celebrations in 2009. Prof. V. G. Idichandy has held several positions in IIT Madras including Dean of Students (25 March 2003-30 August 2009) and Deputy Director.
IIT Madras presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days. The people on the stage include administrative members and the recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award that year.
The 50th Institute Day event was celebrated on 17 April 2009. The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd. The ceremony was presided over by the then Director of the Institute, Prof. M. S. Ananth who was Director from 2001-2011.
