Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya, known as Puduperiyavar was the 69th head of the Kanchi Matha, a Hindu institution based in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. He visited IIT Madras to conduct the kumbhabhishekam of the Jalakanteshwara Temple on 18 June 1965. The photograph was taken during this visit.
