This photograph was taken during a special convocation held at IIT Madras to confer the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) on Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker.
Dr. Weizsäcker was the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. He visited IIT Madras with his wife Marianne.
As seen in the image, Prof. N. V. C. Swamy (Director, extreme right) and Dr. Weizsäcker (wearing a black suit). Marianne von Weizsäcker can be partially seen wearing a hat (second from left). Ms. Maneka Gandhi (Union Minister of State [Independent Charge], Environment and Forests) can be seen wearing a black and orange sari and Prof. R. Nagarajan (Head of Computer Science Department) can be seen to the second from right.
