In 1991, IIT Madras held a special convocation to confer the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) on the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker. Here, he is seen watering a sapling on campus. However, we are not sure where exactly the sapling was planted.
