Seen in the first row from the left: Mr. Mahendra (Director’s younger son), Mrs. Ramachandran (Director’s wife), Mr. A. R. Balakrishnan (Director’s elder son), Mr. Harendra (Director’s Nephew) and Mrs. Mohana Venugopal (Director’s elder brother, Dr. A. Venugopal’s wife). Dr. A.R. Balakrishnan joined as Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai in 1988. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1993 and then to full Professor in 1995. Dr. A. R. Balakrishnan also served as the Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras during 2003–2006.

A farewell function was held in honour of Dr. A. L. Mudaliar on 30th August 1969. The function commenced at 05:30 pm on that Saturday. Although the venue was initially the Open Air Theatre on the Institute campus, its function was held in the Aero Hangar due to unfavourable weather conditions. The event was presided over by Mr H. V. R. Iengar. The programme consisted of an invocation, welcome address, speeches by: Dr. Bindseil (German Consulate General), Board member, Senate member, a student representative and Mr. H. V. R. Iengar. A speech was also given by Dr. A. L. Mudaliar which was followed by a vote of thanks.
