Sir C. V. Raman inspects the guard of honour along with 2/Lt. G. V. N. Rayudu

The chief guest and speaker at IIT Madras’s third convocation, which was held on the 30th of July, 1966 was Sir C. V. Raman, the Indian physicist, Nobel laureate and Bharat Ratna recipient. On the day of the event, upon reaching the campus, Sir C. V. Raman was received by Prof. B. Sengupto, Director of the Institute, and Mr. C. V. Sethunathan, Registrar. The chief guest was then presented a guard of Honour by the cadets of the N.C.C. He inspected the guard along with Prof. G. V. N. Rayudu (2/Lt NCC commander, Department of Mechanical Engineering).

C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
