Some of the visitors and guests in the Student Activities Centre, 1983

Institute Events , Inaugurations , Convocations

The photograph was taken in the newly opened Student Activities Centre (SAC) during the 20th convocation day in 1983.

Seen in the photograph is Mrs. Indira Sivasailam (wife of Chairman, Board of Governors of IIT Madras Mr. A. Sivasailam, extreme right) and Mrs. Malathi Ramanna (wife of the Chairman, Board of Governors of IIT Bombay Dr. Raja Ramanna, wearing a green saree).

Mrs. Indira Sivasailam was known for her inclination towards Carnatic music. She encouraged upcoming artists and provided them with a platform to perform and make their talents visible. Ms. Mallika Srinivasan started the Indira Sivasailam Foundation as a tribute to her mother Indira Sivasailam. The website confirms, “the foundation strives to preserve and promote India's rich cultural heritage including folk art and folk theatre, a pursuit Smt.
