He was known to blend Western and Eastern styles of music. The year this photograph was taken, in 1983, Mr. Ananda Shankar performed music along with Pandit Ravishankar and Ustad Zakir Hussain.
Mardi Gras, now known as Saarang, was a cultural festival occurring annually for 5 days with dance, music, quiz, debate, sketching, photography, drama, and other competitions. Mardi Gras 1983 took place from 26 to 30 January 1983. From the name that this album was given, the album appears to comprise images from day 2 of Mardi Gras ‘83, meaning that this photograph was taken on 27 January 1983.
